The cocktail plays a starring role in American food and drink culture, and is considered to be an important part of daily life. It is here that the history of mixology is born, along with the codification of recipes and the glamorization of the cocktail, thanks to the father of all bartenders, Jerry Thomas. Today more than ever, trade professionals are taking it upon themselves to experiment with mixology; they are constantly looking for superior artisanal products, from distillates and quality fruit to ice. To celebrate the American cocktail, Slow Food USA has called a competition for bar professionals, dubbed the Slow Food Speakeasy. Mixologists propose a recipe for a drink that embraces the values of Slow Food, using Ark of Taste products and embodying the regional culture of the participant. Come discover the history of the beverage, dating back to 1850, and experience the drinks that celebrate it.
